Ketamine

Age:20
Weight-120 lbs
Dose: 250 mg
ROA: insufflated

T0:00- Ketamine is in large crystal shards. I crush up about 130 mg and snort it. I figure this should be good for a hole. It stings a bit but it’s tolerable.

T0:20- I am beginning to feel it. This feels as pure as dissociation can get, lacking the giddy colorful psychedelia of MXE, the non-visual mania of 3-MeO-PCP, and the utter weirdness and discomfort of DXM. I am going entirely numb, it’s such a raw unfettered feeling that it almost feels cold.

T0:40- The peak is beginning now. I am under my covers, I really feel cold but not in an uncomfortable way, it just feels matter of fact. My body feels like it’s just faded away, as though it is now transparent. I put on music that sounds like dissociatives, even when sober. It’s loud and fitting and makes the entire room feel grey. The nature of K is a sort of colorlessness, I’ve noticed it is one of the colder and more greyscale drugs I have taken- it is metallic and sterile. It feels like I’ve turned into cold grey stone. My room looks very far away and unreal, I lose connection to the symbolic and emotional meaning of the objects around me. Everything seems flat and alien.

T0:50- I’m not going as hard as I want to. I try to stand up, and it’s kinda hard so I crawl over to my desk. I crush up another ~30 mg and rail it down. I am very dissociated and the space around me looks unreal, it boggles my mind that I can touch it and interact with it, because my initial judgment just upon sensing it says otherwise. It all just feels so far away. I crawl back into bed.

T1:00- Heressss the good stuff. I close my eyes and fall into the hole. This is what I wanted, this is what I’m here for. It’s an immense maroon darkness, incomprehensibly huge. If I want, I can occupy it with objects woven from some subconscious fibers. 3-d geometric shapes appear on either sides of me like an alley of monolithic columns and I can zoom through them or around them. Well rather, it feels like I’m sitting still and they are zooming around me. Auditory stimuli still comes in and that seems to color and texture this realm.

T1:20- And as soon as it begins its over. As much as I try to fade into the space of my closed eyes, there is that irritating feeling of being able to sense my body again. I still have a bunch left and nothing to do for the rest of the day… might as well tap into it. I’m really not sure how I managed to do this, physically. Maybe just sheer willpower to return to the K hole. I crush up the rest and take it down, totaling 250 mg for the experience. Almost instantly it feels like the world has shifted and I have entered back into another realm. This is good, I like where this is going. K feels so cold. I feel like I’ve snorted ice, that this icy numbness is radiating from my sinuses outwards. This is by no means uncomfortable or unpleasant, it just is. It is extremely and fundamentally neutral. It’s a grey overcast day, and I don’t have lights on. The room is glowing a cool grey.

T1:30- I am in the hole again. Woo. This time, I have a recognizable form. It is not like ego death, it is rather like my ego has transferred to the body and mind of another being. In this case, a large winged insect. With my eyes closed, I feel like I am flitting and flying amongst those same huge monolithic geometric forms in an immense dimness. These forms are hard to distinguish and look and feel vague and foggy. They bear no details to speak of. This world feels like a huge blocky chamber enclosing me, the boundaries of it simply too far to truly sense, though something tells me that they exist and something tells me the form that they take. I flit around as a bug for a good half hour or so. The feeling in my  body was like floating as an oil slick on the undulating surface of a pond. I could feel my limbs warp and bend without actually moving.

T2:00-I am out of the hole. There are definite visuals in the form of sort of smooth interlocking shapes on my ceiling. They are 2 dimensional and static. I am mostly just dissociated and numb now. I laze around on my computer while I come down. I wish I had more to binge on, I bought it all on impulse the night before while on 3-MeO-PCP, and honestly getting more would just be absurdly expensive for me. Another time, another time…

T4:00-Completely back to baseline.

Conclusion: I don’t dislike K, but like, it just feels cold, grey, dull and boring. K is immensely bleak and the K Hole is just one great void. I really don’t know what the fuss with K is. It’s interesting enough but it’s also pretty expensive and doesn’t last very long. Other dissociatives like MXE trump it on all of these fronts. To each their own I guess though.

DPT

Age:19
Weight-130 lbs
Dose-  ~70 mg Intranasal

T0:00- I decide to rail what’s left in the bag that I have, roughly 70 mg. I just stick a straw in the bag and inhale. It takes two goes to get it all out. As expected it is extremely unpleasant. It stings a bit and the chalky powder clumps and sticks the whole way up. It fluffs up in my sinuses and clings to everything, remaining suspended the whole way down my throat. It’s not painful, but it’s exceedingly unpleasant. It feels like I have a very bitter sore throat and the drip is disgusting in a very unique and special way. I drink two capri suns to chase it.

T0:15- The plan is that me and my roommates and a friend are all going to see the new Mad Max movie together. This would be my second time seeing it. I can feel the effects coming on, there is some amount of nausea and discomfort but I can deal. Visuals are beginning to kick in pretty hard by the time I am waiting by the door for everyone else to get ready. I wait outside on the street. The world feels like its closing in on me, the sky seems much closer than it really is and the world feels like its being seen through a square fisheye lens. Patterns form on the sidewalk and on other surfaces, and sounds are taking on a distinct reverberation.

T0:25- My friend gives me some nausea pills as we walk to the theater. I feel like I am floating and that I am telescoping out of my body. The visuals are flowery and flowy, rounded and blossoming and organic with some sharp edges. They are all blue and purple and green and pink, and my sense of perspective is completely destroyed by the overlapping and bursting visuals.

T0:30- We get to the theater. I am definitely starting to peak. I am way too fucked up to even attempt at ordering tickets, so my friend does it for me. Me and her wait in the upstairs lobby for everyone else. My vision seems to be splitting and repeating like I am viewing the world through compound eyes. Within each little screen of vision, the image mirrors and splits and fractalizes further. It feels like my field of vision is a dome on all sides of me, that I am seeing everywhere at once in all these little windows. The windows begin to intersect and repeat themselves, overlapping one another. Oh man, I really need to get into the dark theater. Sounds start to become incomprehensible, everyone sounds like they’re babbling and the ambient noise around me seems like its babbling too. The only thing that makes remotely any sense is someone talking directly to me. It seems like people’s faces are made of interlocking shapes and patterns, each shape independent from one another but still forming a coherent structure. Everyone else finally comes upstairs and we get into the theater.

T0:37- I am sitting in the dark now, some degree of respite. The advertisements weird me the fuck out. There are giant people on a screen in front of me. Real people are overwhelming enough, but these giant people are even weirder. The commercial playing when we walk in features several references to a TV show I had never seen or heard of before that, so the dialogue is extremely confusing and I am completely bewildered. Have I drifted this far from humanity to the degree that everything is fundamentally incomprehensible? The darkness around me feels like it’s made of millions of violet and maroon interlocking shapes. At last the movie begins. I am beginning to feel the bodyload, and as that burgeons I find myself having a hard time keeping calm. I am sweating like mad. I feel nauseous and lightheaded and my heart is beating wildly. I strip off all of my outer layers and just pray I don’t sweat so much I get dehydrated as I didn’t bring any drinks.

T0:45- The movie has begun. Ho boy. It is very strange to watch a movie while tripping. I begin to see all the little deliberate actions that went into every shot, every line of dialogue. No shred of the production seems frivolous or random, the fact that I am seeing everything makes me realize how every little bit of it is deliberately and carefully placed. The attention that went into the cinematography, the writing, the costumes, the editing, the soundtrack, it all becomes apparent. It is truly a very heavily enhanced experience and I would highly recommend people do it with their favorite films. The first 20 minutes of the film consists of a great deal of super loud and brutal revving noises. I begin to get worried about falling into a bad trip, as the movie gets pretty violent right off the bat. The first road battle is extremely intense, no other word for it. I project myself onto the characters and it becomes frightening honestly, to imagine being in their position. Amongst explosions, shrapnel, flying metal, fire, heavy machines and wheels-I feel like I am on the verge of being brutally mangled just watching. I feel like I can feel the heat and shockwaves of the fires and explosions. This is wild, visuals aren’t too apparent now because I’m so focused on the stimulation from the movie. I still feel sweaty and uncomfortable. It feels like I am flying around the screen when there are wide angle and establishing shots.

T1:30- I begin to notice I’m down enough to no longer have too much bodyload. This is a huge relief and the rest of the movie is more coherent and less stressful. Seeing the rest of it is highly enjoyable.

T2:45- Afterwards we go to the grocery store for some snacks before we go home. I realize that one reason I enjoy psychedelics so much is because I feel strong and special, I feel like I am facing and overcoming psychological adversity that many others have openly stated they would not be able to handle. The beginning of the movie was super stressful and I’m very proud of myself for being able to keep under control. I feel like a hero, battling big monsters made of chemicals, brushing aside these absurd challenges without a hitch. It fills me with confidence and life force. I am getting light visuals still and feel very spacy/am having fast paced psychedelic thoughts. The afterglow from DPT is probably one of my favorite drug afterglows. The amount of insight and confidence and social aptitude it gives me is second only to acid.

T3:10-We go home. I smoke a bunch of cannabis and get vivid CEV’s. They look like huge gears and rotating cylinders. They are red and pink with yellow and orange spots and patterns on them. I socialize the rest of the night with my two friends, mostly about mental illness, suicide, depression etc.

T5:00-I am roughly back to baseline now with some slight afterglow. Mostly just stoned. Still able to rapidly and efficiently process and express thoughts, though its slowed down from before.

Coclusion: This setting was perhaps not ideal to present a neutral profile of DPT, but it’s the one I remember best. I have experienced it several other times however and can say the draw the following conclusions: DPT is a very intense psychedelic that hits hard and fast if taken the most efficient way-insufflation. It is one of the most uncomfortable drugs to insufflate, due to the chalkiness and god-awful flavor of the powder. It fluffs up and sticks to the insides of the sinuses, forming clumps and clinging to everything. It also stings a good bit. I always would have a bloody nose the next day. After that, the trip comes on incredibly hard and fast with an uneasy combination of nausea and intense sweating. It crashes over to deliver a consistently profound experience that feels challenging in a stimulating and healthy manner. The visuals are vivid and alien, geometric and harmonious in a way that does not seem abstract or fully organic. They are colorful and spectacular. The headspace is not lucid relative to the world around me, but lucid within its own paradigm, allowing for coherent and consistent navigation of profoundly altered and alien thoughts. It rages for a bit and wears off relatively quickly. It is not for the faint of heart, but it’s absolutely worth it for those willing to put up with the intensity and deep discomfort it may instill.

im poisoned

Im taking a hiatus from all substances, I have been getting progressively worse bodyload with each trip over the past few months, culminating in two recent experiences that had me feelin like I had swallowed a thornbush with nausea and malaise that lasted several days after. I have never truly felt so poisoned. Something's wrong with my body and I need to heal/work on my nutrition I think.
this gives me time to catch up with this semseter's worth of trip reports, still have:
3 separate 3-MeO-PCP experienecs that will go into one post
3-MeO-PCP + 2C-B
4-AcO-DET
4-HO-MET
Methyallylescaline

Also for the sake of completion... I want to really have a coherent report for every novel experience, each new substance and combination. I have reports on ketamine and DPT in combination but none on their own, so I'll have to break the chronology and get to that
The DPT experience im planning on writing on is several months in the past and the ketamine experience was about 2 months ago, but those will probably come before anything else
Also a post about MXE by itself! I don't have a particular experience in mind, they all end up feeling pretty similar and they're hard to distinguish in my memory. Maybe I'll just make a post with excerpts from various experiences.

so that's 8 posts im gonna try to have up before new years :3
I wanna try to trip on new years, itll be a gamble, lets see if my body will be nice to me or if I'll go into the new year feeling deathly ill!!!!!
happy holidays etc ~

The great master list of every hallucinogen that has been available + drug taxonomy

*THIS IS OUTDATED AND I AM NOT UPDATING IT. IT IS AN EXERCISE IN FUTILITY AND IT IS REALLY HARD TO SET THE CRITERIA FOR INCLUSION IN THIS. PLEASE STOP TELLING ME ABOUT THINGS THAT I MISSED, THIS HASN'T BEEN UPDATED WITH NEW DRUGS SINCE LIKE 2021 I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY I'M LEAVING IT UP.*

Here's a list I compiled of every hallucinogenic substance within the psychedelic-dissociative-deliriant trifecta. Stimulants, benzos, cannabanoids, alcohol, and plenty others can definitely trigger hallucinations (and so the inclusion of a few unclassifiable things while excluding those might be iffy) but I think the trifecta definition follows rules of what acts on which receptors. (See postscript). There are infinite theoretical compounds that could be included. Thus my criteria for inclusion are ones that are active to some degree and have been available at some point and time on the market beyond Shulgin's labs and personal circle. Pretty much anything with trip reports that aren't from TiHKAL and PiHKAL
This is going to be broken down into incredibly tedious taxonomy like with biology. Not sure if I did that part right, might honestly seem iffy and arbitrary at points. :\ some family names I just gave up and put the name of the chemical because I don't know orgo nomenclature well enough. I guess I'll fix that after I take the class next semester.

If you want a plaintext version with much more simplified pared down classification w/o all that orgo bs its here (it probably needs updating):

* I really honestly just don't know what to call this structure with regards to cladistics
POSTSCRIPT-
So thus by definition:
Psychedelics primarily act as agonists for some of the 5HT1 and 5HT2 receptors
Dissociatives primarily act as NMDA receptor antagonists
Deliriants primarly act as mACh receptor antagonists
these definitions are nowhere near comprehensive, MDMA for example acts primarily on receptors that identify it as an amphetamine (TAAR1 and VMAT2), but also has slight activity on the 5HT1 & 2 receptors.... classifying them and ordering them was mostly based on structure, taxonomy by receptor is a nightmare... like MDMA acts on similar receptors as amphetamines, while "psychedelic amphetamines" (DOB for example) act on 5-HT2c receptors (along with the main psychedelic ones 5HT2a and 5HT2b) with seemingly little action on the TAAR1 adn VMAT2 receptors, while 2C-B, the non amphetamine version, acts only on 5-HT2c. So what decides the receptor affinity? Is it the 2,5 methoxy groups that 2C-B and DOB share? It certainly doesn't seem to have to do anything with one being an amphetamine, although MDMA shares receptor affinity with other amphetamines? Do those 2,5-MeO groups take priority? Not only that but 2C-B and 2C-T-2 have completely different receptor affinities, the only difference being the active group on the 4 position. What role does this play?? ?????? Maybe these are very basic questions and I just don't know anything about the principles of pharmacology. If anyone knows this better than me (and honestly the place these questions are coming from might be wrong, these might not even be valid questions, I really am not well read on the subject) please tell me

Drug nomenclature is a fucking mess. Sometimes I use the chemical names, sometimes I use common names (I think they're INN names). The tryptamines have a very codified and standardized nomenclature system, while the phenethylamines are a mess. the 2C-x and DOx naming convention do not follow any real system of nomenclature (2C stands for 2 carbons (the 2,5 MeO groups... even though mescaline and analogues also have 2 MeO groups???) and DOx is Dimethoxy-x-amphetamine ???? I love u sasha shulgin but what) but the codified phenethylamine naming system is just a fucking mouthful and while there probably is some more valid abbreviation no one knows it by that (DOM for example, 2,5-dimethoxy-4-methyl-amphetamine could be 2,5,DMeO-4MA x_x nobody calls it that) so for that section I am just using the most common nomenclature. (No one is calling mescaline 3,4,5-TMeO-P lol)
Some other nomenclature oddities-LSD is more appropriately labeled LAD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) (the LSD abbreviation comes from its German name). I say appropriately labeled above because all the other chemicals in that family follow the LAD naming convention. Except LSA and 1-P-LSD and ALD-52 and LSM. The use of the LSx and LAx conventions honestly seem arbitrary. Anyone know what's up with that?
Dividing up the arylcyclohexamines was a mess... Ketamine serves as a basis for several compounds, though two seem to be defined by being analogues from editing the fundamental structure of the ketamine molecule...What piece of the ketamine molecule defines it as ketamine? Is it the Cl? The N-methylamine? Why would something lacking the Cl have the suffix ketamine, and why would something with an methyl-n-methylamine instead of n-methylamine also have that suffix? Based on my limited knowledge of orgo I would deduce the des- and nor- suffixes indicate analogues from removal of certain molecules, but couldn't those also be considered analogues of PCM and PCE respectively? who knows :\
Furthermore, tryptamine is a colloquialism, the more proper term would be indole-ethanamine. Tryptamine is derived from tryptophan, the amino acid to which the family bears structural similarity (tryptophan also happens to be a precursor to two members of the tryptamine family, serotonin and melatonin). The name Tryptophan is further derived from the enzyme Trypsin, which comes from the greek root "tripsimo" (rubbing). Not sure why it's called that.
Also I think its interesting how many monotypic clades end up cropping up, even from the "order" level down (eg. the Indazoles (or that should just be indazole I guess)), but this is just within the system of taxonomy for hallucinogens that have been available. Monotypic taxons are a mess but a necessary one and they are essential to keep order in biological cladistics, if anything to show us the absurd degree that biodiversity has attained. For example, Lepidoptera, the order of insects containing butterflies and moths, has 3 monotypic suborders representing some very strange obscure moths only found in little endemic patches of the world. The 4th suborder contains eveyr single other butterfly and moth known. Account for ALL chemical compounds (not even psychoactive ones) and nothing is monotypic anymore. Interesting exercise in cladistics I guess.

Why I'm enamored with drinking cough medicine part 2

CW: Depression
-Part 2-
DXM is wild. DXM is fucking wild. I already have several trip reports of my combinations with psychedelics and the crafting of a strange world called "the dextroverse". They can be read here:

Here are some of my experiences with DXM itself. The first was during a spiralling and very deep depression. I began to experiment with DXM again, and decided to try doubling my usual dose.
*EDIT: These reports have been split into separate posts for the novelty of their combinations*
I am leaving this post intact as I still feel like it gets the same message across.
The separate posts for each report are here:
DXM
DXM + Bupropion
DXM + DPH + Bupropion + Gabapentin

-----------------
Dose-600 mg

T0:00-Begin drinking cough syrup. Try mixing it /chasing it with ginger ale. Its easiest to drink if I just chase it. Manage to slug down one bottle in about 5 minutes.

T0:25-Manage to drink the second bottle by now. Already feeling slightly dissociated. Nausea is coming on strong, this stuff is absolutely disgusting.

T0:40-I am being drowned in a big swirling ocean of syrup. The swells toss me about and mold my form like I am made of soft clay. I do not feel a progression through plateaus, rather I am just sinking deeper and deeper into the dex sea. It reaches a point where I can no longer see straight with both eyes open, I get the classic dissociative double vision. (I am on MXE while I write this oops). It follows with this sense of just being completely and totally lost in my own room, I do not know where I am, when I am, why I am, how I am, I am wiped clean and left confused. It feels like my stomach is boiling. I know I have to hold it down as long as possible to absorb as much as I can. I know vomiting is near inevitable.

T0:45-The yak comes. I throw up red syrup in a hideous cascade. Wow this feels terrible wow. I never liked vomiting, it is painful, it is uncomfortable, it makes my eyes water it makes it feel like my body is dismantling. But I get it out, I feel a bit disappointed that I wasn’t able to keep it down for longer, I will not get the full experience I desired I’m pretty sure.

T???-Per usual the next however many hours is a dissociative black out fog, timeless and punctuated by brief moments of relative clarity. What I can remember is open eyed visuals taking the form of warping and bulging of the space around me, it looked like the world had turned to syrup and was tilting in every direction slowly. I lost all sense of space, if I closed my eyes and opened them again I would feel completely lost, with no idea of what was up, down, left, right, forward, backwards, I felt like I was the objects around me, not an independent being. Walking was pretty much impossible.
If I closed my eyes, it would be an instant OBE. No calm and gradual fading of myself, I was immediately cast into the dizzying void. Each time my eyes closed, a similar journey would take place, with the same sequence. First I would see the room around me. It looked normal, with the colors being heavily saturated. Soon though, the dream space would collapse into the swirling abyss, come apart piece by piece and dissolve into nothing. I would be in a vast place I would call the dream nexus. It seemed like an impossible huge spherical void, which I was free to float in. The walls of this shell were covered with a grid of hundreds of thousands apertures. This is where things got a bit confusing/
If I were to float in an aperture, I would awake, in my bed again. I would get up and explore my house, and encounter people I knew, either people I lived with, friends, or sometimes strangers. We would interact, everything seemed very off though. We spoke in terse non-sequiturs. I don’t remember any of what was said but it was all surreal and emotionally empty. Everyone was emotionally empty and the color was drained of the world. This whole time I was actually still just lying in bed with my eyes closed. I could reset the cycle by opening and closing my eyes.
With eyes open, a similar effect took hold, as if my brain was trying its hardest to imbue this feeling in me no matter my state. Objects around me would morph into people, familiar people. They would just stand there, merely exist, looking like furniture. They kept appearing around me, hanging around me, I didn’t feel alone in my room at all, and In retrospect I ended up having to ask my roommates if I really interacted with any of them during that timespan (I didn’t).

T5:00-I wake up. I don’t know if I fell asleep or if the past 3 hours have been a total blackout. I am down enough to have functional motor skills, and it seems like my memory has touched down and is recording again. I still feel VERY dissociated and spacey, I still have the “dex walk” and still feel like everything is in motion. I have a sense of direction again, and the visual effects have died down other than vision being super blurry. I hang out with my roommates and go scavenging for junk with them the rest of the night.

T9:00-I go to bed, still feeling spacey. I wake up the next morning still feeling like I am on a low dose of dex. Still feel the dex walk, but its not apparent and I look normal enough. The world feels dreamlike and unreal, it seems like everything is just fading into the background of existence. I have an appointment with my therapist and he’s a bit irked that I’m altered while there. I still have vivid CEV’s, and if I close my eyes long enough I can really sink into them and almost sort of lucid dream. They are no longer replicated from the world around me, but rather are randomly generated. They take the form of tunnels and moving geometric objects.
-----------------
Soon after, I was put on a higher dosage of Bupropion. This is when things began getting weird and infinitely fascinating.
-----------------
Dose: 200 mg

Take 200 mg of DXM at a party, it is mixed into a bottle of ginger ale. The drink is bitter and gives me chills. It is pretty nasty, but definitely bearable and about as drinkable as hard alcohol. For about an hour I am coming up, I am feeling definite dissociation and a general spaciness. Around the comeup, my memory begins to blank and fall away. Everything feels very distant, it is like everything that is more than 5 feet away has just been swirled and blurred into abyssal nonsense. I think I am visibly intoxicated, moreso than anyone else there. One of the people who lives at the house offers me to chill out in her room, probably because I was talking about the visions I got from closing my eyes. Also my eyes had turned deep deep blood red, more than anyone gets from being stoned, it probably looked very off. These visions included:
A procession of strange geometric alien figures, marching on a bridge between two mountains. They are strange solid pastel colors. Some have eyes or discernable features, but they all have strong right angles and straight lines, as if they have been molded or produced. I am merely a witness to these visions, I do not interact with them. I am a stationary camera watching them from afar.
A huge detailed ship crawls across my vision. It feels like a spaceship, because its just kinda floating in empty abyss, but there is definitely an open deck on top, which would make no sense in space. There are canopied spaces and all variety of boxes and clutter on the deck. It is very washed out and dark and gloomy seeming, the entire vision is washed out.
A landscape with dead trees. I don’t remember too much of this one, other than a blue glow on the horizon.
The next morning I feel very spacey. This feeling lasts all day, it is like I was just high and slightly dissociated when I woke up. This doesn’t wear off until I am awake for about 12 hours.
 -----------------
I soon after read about the whole metabolism and potentiation thing and figured I could try and play with it.
-----------------
Dose: 120 mg DXM, 150 mg Bupropion, 150 mg DPH, 3 g Gabapentin

I had a little bit of DXM left, and didn’t feel like going all the way to the store for more. I wondered how I could make it go a long way. I had been reading earlier about the action of CYPD2D6 inhibitors and the effects they can have on DXM. I happened to be prescribed one of the most potent ones. I was already taking 450 mg a day. I figured throwing another 150 mg on would make for an interesting interaction. I decided to add some DPH to the mix too, both for its deliriant properties and because it too is an inhibitor. Because bupropion lowers a person’s seizure threshold I decided to take a ton of gabapentin too (I am prescribed 300 mg 3x a day).
I don’t remember the comeup much, but I was cast into the familiar state of everything seeming distant and metallic. Everything seemed to have rippling outlines, with tiny thin hairs sticking out of these auras. It was like everything had a hairy aura I guess. I began to feel like I had company, it was that feeling of the objects around me being people, seeing something from the corner of my eye triggered a strong feeling of sharing the space with another presence. I was alone for this entire experience.
I went outside to sit in my backyard and smoke, It was a nice dusk and the sunset was serene and pleasant. While lying back there, I got a very vivid hallucination-A black cloud, looking like a really thick puff of smoke, crawled across the sky like an amoeba with pseudopods. It appeared to be 15 feet off the ground or so. It reached powerlines, at which point it bent and altered its “limbs” to crawl over them. It the flashed out of existence. This was wild, the powerlines looked hairy and everything still had that aura. These hallucinations were unlike anything from psychedelics, they were not patterns or alterations, but just total hallucinations. I spent the next hour and a half relaxing back there, and the entire experience is a strange hallcucinatory circus. The entire time, it feels like I am hanging out with my friends back there like I have been pretty often at night the past few weeks, they are communicating and interacting with me and each other. They are hanging around, smoking, passing around a piece and joking and being warm presences. Of course in reality, I am completely alone. These people barely even manifest visually- They only appear in the corners of my eyes, and when focused on they vanish. They are faceless, featureless, grey and ethereal. They are loosely based off of real people I know, they are sentient silhouettes, ghosts if you will. Sometimes they are standing, looming, walking around, and we both feel like we notice one another. But once again, no one there, absolutely nobody.
The next day, I am still pretty dissociated when I wake up. I feel kinda numb and just very altered. Dex walk is still apparent. Upon smoking, I am blasted right back into the dexosphere. I no longer have the hallucinations of other presences. Rather, I am stricken with debilitating dissociation and super clear and vivid closed eye visuals. This time, I am floating above detailed landscapes, with rivers, rolling hills, and completely desolate terrain, devoid even of plant life. Other hallucinations include the typical zooming through a tunnel or between pillars.
-----------------

DXM has inspired me a great deal artistically. It puts ideas and images in my head that I have an uncontrollable urge to express and create. Especially this whole dextroverse... There is a sort of lore surrounding it now, it has become a fantasy world.
If I could generally describe it, it follows different physical laws than our existence. Things can physically exits as infinite, the medium in which things exist is either not gaseous, or everything can just ignore gravity at will. Colors are grey and super saturated and dulled and washed out. The "beings" could be described as lumpy and scribbly, everything is shiny and metallic and bimorphic and blobby looking like in surrealist pantings (see Yves Tanguy). The overall essence of this plane is greyness and bleakness, absolutely overwhelming and all consuming. The entire place is confusing and extremely unnerving and uncomfortable. It is unnerving above all else. It is so different and foreign to our world, it feels like I have absolutely broken reality beyond repair, to the point where I feel trapped in the other dextroverse, that it is where I really belong. The beings that inhabit this place are described in the trip reports linked at the beginning, but to save navigating:

"a sort of worm, it was dull grey and a sort of wrinkly, and looked as if it was made of intestines. At one end was a toothy mouth lined in dark flesh (?), akin to a francis bacon painting (see study for 3 figures at base of a crucifiction). Upon seeing it, it seemed to flatten my experience and input, if a visual analogy were made it would be said that gazing upon it turned the world 2 dimensional and slew any sense of depth perception. It pulsed with a sickly green and pink aura, its sinews pulsing and bulging and warping. I do recall that upon opening my eyes, it was still there, in my vision, flattening my room, sitting dead center of my gaze no matter where I looked. Interestingly the ambient noise seemed to flang and warp in sync with the bulging and pulsing of its body. It eventually faded. This one seemed oddly familiar."

"two immense beings next to one another, impossibly huge, larger than anything on earth. I flitted around them like a speck of dust in a draft. These monolithic beings were vaguely human shaped, their matter seeming to be a sort of swirling darkness. These beings were completely and utterly indifferent to me and to anything human or any sort of human struggle. The entire history of the world would be a passing breeze to them. They were so alien and so incomprehensible cold, indifferent, and unfeeling that the air and rocks around them seemed to glisten with color and passion. My presence wasn’t just nothing to them, it was beyond nothing, them choosing to consider my existence was a cosmic impossibility and absurdity, and even if they did they would have no comprehension of something so below them. Being near them felt like holding my brain and sanity to a grinding wheel."

In addition are the sort of sentient beings in this realm, who are not as strangely powered. The strange amorphous and vaguely humanoid beings I just call dex-beings, who hide in my dreams and consciousness. They feel hostile.

There is also this essence of pale flesh, toothiness, smooth skin and pallor stretched over bones, eyeless naked beings and essences...

Here's some pictures about it:

This is what it feels like to mix DXM and CYP2D6 inhibitors/anticholinergics
Inspired by a recent experience when sitting in my bathroom
It's a lot like this
"
I swim to the flat distant shore unmolested
the fleshy clouds are crawling through the atmosphere on this sickening idyllic day
the vista of flatland exposes itself before me, the eye drawn immediately to the one form breaking the monotony-
On the horizon, a silhouette standing on the flatness, I approach for an objective,

Erupting from the landscape, a pillar of a being, the pallor skin of the ground draping their phallic form, the fabric of the world pleating in ripples from and around them,
they are featureless, save for one great blood bruised maw the lips drawn back or ablated to be nonexistant displaying its taut gums and a rampart of great glossy teeth, clenched together by the weight of the world

Upon my approach,
they do not react, upon my close inpsection, not a breath is drawn, not a single muscle twitches in recognition. Before them is a dish
it contains:
3 little pieces of paper
4 little pink tablets of benadryl
a bottle of ruby red teeth
a note that reads:

"it laughs, it does
it lives, it does, it does,
of skin stretched tight, of the wicked teeth, it does, it has
of merely drifting in buoyancy, it does, it has, a friend,
a friend it has, a friend you have, a friend who
enshrouds you in a thousand night black mycelium embraces, it does,
come and say hell-o,
you do, you do, you do"
"

"
The form looms closer and larger into view, it does not move or react to my approach
its great silent shadow yawns around me, yawns across itself and screams into the sky from beneath the waves,
and at last, I drift into its breath, its blurred form giving way before me to the murkiest terror,
Latex membrane skin stretched over a frame of bones like clothes drying on the wind,
the greatest mouth of dental palisades, lurking above and around with smothering presence,
entirely indifferent to my being, it is feeble limbs and grey intestines,
One mouth yawns open as if pausing to speak, the syrup rushing into the void of its maw as a great black portal splitting before me
"

Why I'm enamored with drinking cough medicine part 1

I figured DXM warranted a long post of its own. This is a long post in 2 parts. Part 1 is about the nature of DXM and why it is so special and fascinating to me. Part 2 is trip reports and my personal anecdotes.
-----------------
-Part 1-

DXM is not my favorite drug. It is incredibly uncomfortable and strange, physically and psychologically. It is however, by FAR the most fascinating thing I have ever explored, and that keeps me coming back for more. The experiences are emotionally neutral or dysphoric, but it is absurdly interesting and deep, from the different plateaus, to the enzyme inhibition interactions one can do, to the fabled "Pleateau Sigma". There are drugs I love, that make me feel euphoric, confident, in tune with myself, insightful, smarter, comfortable. DXM does none of these things, it is in a league of its own in terms of effects. If I were to rank every drug I've done by how much I liked it, DXM wouldn't even be on the list, it would be off to the side on its own list, picking through the dirt and looking for bugs, it is that strange and unique. I am upset that DXM has earned a reputation of something high schoolers take in lieu of a "real drug", because DXM is realer, deeper, and more intense than almost everything I have taken. It is so immensely powerful, and truly the strangest and most interesting hallucinogen that exists.

"
and on the baking sands, certainly not made of sand at all
the dome above seeps its hot and heavy breath through a thousand apertures
That one looks appealing
i'm sitting on my bed, I have to stop thinking the furniture is my roommates, because there's already one of each of them in the room
or it's yesterday, or maybe tomorrow, or maybe in a dream, but not today, or right now, and I feel like a tangle of shelves ambling down the street, I don't think there's anything else out here
or i didn't know this was 15 days later when a sheet of ice has severed us and no matter how much I do not shut up the permafrost advances
or the warm and indistinguishable time when you are curled up in my bed
you peruse dreams with the feathery antennae of a moth with a subconscious grin at the corner of your mouth
"
" well ok you were still wondering, I haven't been clear, I'm sorry I'm a bit messed up, ok, so it begins
someone is sitting on a metal stool, saying 'bleakness' over and over again,
two to four benadryl march past first, the pink pills are paid no mind yet
the air is buzzing as the first dirt bitter cherry poison lurching worm pulse of syrup oozes down reluctantly,
hey bub, I don't like you, and you don't like me, lets go to the dextroverse together
it reaches the drain, clings on with all its might'no, I don't want to!'
but succumbs, shivers down in drip drops, each the gelatinous spawn of wretched eels, hagfish and toads, each hatching into a
thrashing, slimy goo, whipping their slippery tails until they have filled the space to bursting, with room only to writhe and twitch
that fellow, he chants 'bleakness' louder, faster, with anxious gumption
repeat ad nauseam,
until you've emptied a whole bottle of store brand robitussin
really now, you say you're bored
its ok, I am too,
all I said before, that's what comes after really, yes, thats it,
its confusing and sickening,
I feel like death and out of sorts for days
"

I first did DXM when I was 17, soon after I got out of the psych hospital for the first time. My first attempts were with triple C's (Don't do that, more on that later). I was wary of the potential harm they could cause so I began with very low doses. My first experiences felt wobbly and cartoony, with closed eye visuals and some bodily distortion but not much else. I was soon after prescribed SSRI's, very dangerous to combine with DXM. Thus, I did not take them for a long while. The next time I took them was as a freshman in college, first combined with pscyhedelics, and then by itself a few times. This was all with the gelcaps, I had yet to explore the dark dark world of syrup yet. I found it somewhat boring and didn't delve in again until spring of 2015, when I had become extremely depressed. I decided to play around with it some more, testing combos and high doses. My last experience with gelcaps imbued them with a disturbing feeling of a bunch of slimy little things distending my stomach. I opted for the syrup, which I was able to throw back with relative ease.

I noticed the effects were unlike they ever had been... After some research, I learned that it was an interaction with my newly prescribed antidepressant, Bupropion. I found myself having totally unique drug experiences, unlike any psychedelic or dissociative, or anything really, and unlike other people's DXM experiences. "Dex", as I had affectionately named it, had become something unique to me, it was now something I could claim ownership and identity from. So how does this work? What can you combine with DXM to get an interesting experience?

Well, time for some real drug nerd shit. All of this is based on the metabolism of DXM once it enters your body. The metabolism of DXM is unlike any other psychoactive drug and is in part responsible for its completely unique effects.
I drew a handy diagram just for this purpose, It is pretty rudimentary and doesn't include many stages of the metabolism process/inactive or other compounds, and may not be entirely accurate in the physical depictions of the actions of these substances, but it gets the basic point across I think.
some drug nerd shit
In words, the basic metabolism of DXM is thus: Dextromethorphan is ingested and is processed in the liver. It is metabolized by a series of enzymes from the Cytochrome 450 family, namely Cytochrome 450 2D6 (CYP2D6) and Cytochrome 450 3A4 (CYP3A4). Once in the liver, these act on DXM simultaneously. With healthy enzymes, the effects of this are pretty constant. CYP2D6 metabolizes DXM into the active metabolite Dextrorphan (DXO) and CYP3A4 metabolizes it into 3-Methoxymorphan (3MM). Now is the strange part-The pathways of the metabolites then get switched, with Dextrorphan being taken up by CYP3A4 and 3MM being taken up by CYP2D6. After this second metabolism, both leave us with the final product of 3-Hydroxymorphinan (3HM). The majority of it is metabolized into DXO, which then enters the bloodstream and crosses the blood-brain barrier. Unmetabolized DXM, 3MM, and 3HM exist in much smaller proportions.
A diagram showing the convoluted metabolism pathways
The only chemicals of interest here are DXM and DXO, as 3MM and 3HM are poorly studied and as of now considered to not have much effect in the effects. The experience is a combination of both DXM and DXO acting on your receptors concurrently (mainly NMDA and Sigma), in different ration (usually more DXO). A person can play with these ratios by inhibiting the two enzymes involved. White grapefruit juice (the active chemical is Bergamottin) is a potent inhibitor of CYP3A4. There are many inhibitors of CYP2D6, many of which are anticholinergics, which have the added benefit of calming down nausea, and depending on whether you're into it or not, add deliriant effects into the mix. The most potent CYP2D6 inhibitor is Bupropion (wellbutrin), what I happen to be prescribed :3.
Inhibiting CYP3A4 inhibits the second metabolism of DXO to 3HM, and this could be considered true potentiation, as you end up with an even higher ratio of DXO to the other metabolites, allowing you to get more out of it. Inhibiting CYP2D6 inhibits the metabolism of DXM to DXM, leaving you with a higher ratio of DXM to other metabolites. more on this in a bit,
Anyways,
A normal DXM experience is a pretty high ratio of DXO to DXM. What are the effects of this?
Most of the pleasant effects of DXM are a result of DXO. DXO is an extremely potent NMDA receptor antagonist, (other NMDA agonists include Ketamine, MXE, PCP, etc etc). Thus, you get the typical dissociative effects, euphoria, it manifests in warmth and body high.
DXM is more active on the sigma receptors, and gives you the mental aspects of the trip-hallucinations, psychedelia, speediness and sensory distortions.
So if I am on bupropion, that means that a lot of DXM is going unconverted! I end up with a high ratio DXM trip. This accounts for the unique effects I have felt.
Most describe a mostly DXM trip as unpleasant, and they certainly are almost like deliriants, with vivid hallucinations and a sort of disturbing weirdness to them. I personally enjoy them, but I have yet to try actual deliriants :\ (soooooooooooon)
My first diagram shows the action of various inhibitors on potentiating DXM. One to note is Chlorpheniramine, CPM, the other active ingredient on Coricidin Cough and Cold (triple C's). This is a non-competitive ligand for CYP2D6, meaning that if other things are being metabolized by CYP2D6, it will just kinda turn away and stay unmetabolized (for the record Bupropion is similar...). Most other inhibitors are more competitive with being metabolized. What sets CPM apart is that it is pretty toxic, and when a lot of it goes unmetabolized there is a toxic buildup in the liver, which can cause death. This is why almot all of the deaths attributed to DXM were from triple C's

Also, what is this fabled "plateau sigma" i mentioned earlier? Well, this is the most interesting part, this is like a cheat code, a glitch in the fabric of reality. By spacing out several doses of DXM across an entire day, (about 200-300 mg every 3 hours or so about 3 times in a day), one can attain a state called Plateau sigma. Plateau sigma is the farthest you can get. It is described as insanity beyond insanity, or is simply just described as being purely inexplicable. Vivid open eyed hallucinations and entity contact occurs. There is no ego death, but rather the ego begins to exist in a way that is truly incomprehensible. Information processing stops following any rules of association or causality, and one's mind truly becomes subject to chaos. It is described as being very mentally and physically taxing and leaving people feeling out of sorts for days after. Most describe the experience as being unpleasant.
Chart showing the ratio of metabolites when redosing (Courtesy of erowid.org)
So how does this happen? Well when you repeatedly dose yourself with DXM, you are disabling and stressing your enzymes, making less of them available each time. Eventually, they are all so occupied that there are none to metabolize DXM anymore, which then passes through the entire process unscathed and goes straight to your brain. Thus the sigma experience is a DXM-heavy experience. While one can effectively inhibit enzymes with other chemicals, the sigma experience only comes from inhibition through a DXM overload. No one knows why this is. Maybe has something to do with 3MM and 3HM being active after all? But anyways, this means that with my medications I am getting predominantly DXM experiences, I guess you could call it Sigma-lite. I love it.

"hello, and
welcome to my house!
the walls are grey the doors are grey the windows are grey the ceiling is grey the stairs are grey oh heck even the disarray of hands in the living room is grey, has gone grey
Maybe its more like taupe hm,
I digress, You're grey!
It took 6 hours and a whole bottle of delsym to do all this grey, but I'm not particularly proud, ive have done better things with my time
'This is getting weird' you say to me
'Yeah, it is' I say to you
I want to smile at you, at you, each tooth uniform and perfect rectangles, 90 degree corners to the very atoms
but instead I say,
'Come and sit, there isn't really much to do'
'ok'
'care for some water?'
'oh, do you have some?'
'oh'
"..."
'why doesn't anyone come by anymore?'
you shift uncomfortably, your eyes are struggling for a spot on the drywall to fix your gaze on
'...'
'I get the impression that some people think I'm crazy'
your expression is so stoic that it must hurt
'...'
'so yeah'
'...'
'How was your day?'
'ok'
'ok'
'...'
'I have paper and pencil, would you like to make a picture?'
You pull your phone out of your pocket and furiously ripple the walls with radio waves, each profane arcane and spat with venom
I don't know if you notice, you probably do, but, when each one crashes onto me, you may observe that like a nest of vitreous spiders, they scuttle up my torso
and come to whisper themselves into me
'do you want to leave?'
I say
'yes'
you say
'yes, ok'
'yes, ok'
After you're gone, the door welds shut, I did not even look out the peephole to make sure you got outside safe, that's it

4-AcO-MET + Allylescaline

(This one has been published by Erowid!!!!)

CW: Suicide, depression
Age:20
Weight-120 lbs
Dose: ~30 mg 4-AcO-MET oral in gel cap, 50 mg Allylescaline oral in gel cap
Setting: Secret place along the river, around Philly, my apartment

Set: Was planning this trip all week. Scrambled frantically to make sure it was timed right and it would work out. Was relieved that I was actually gonna make it work.
Setting: The secret place by the freight tracks under a bridge in North Philly where I go to trip by myself

T0:00-Capsules taken simultaneously

T0:20-First notes of effects. Arrive at destination only to find a dude sleeping there. Decide it would be best not to disturb him and to walk further up the tracks and find somewhere new.

T0:25-Find an underpass further up the tracks and take shelter there after looking out for suspicious persons. I have very quickly went from a relatively urban setting to total desolation, no buildings are in sight, only the withering trees and lonely industrial rail space. I sit down and smoke a bowl, the effects are coming on ever so slightly still. After I smoke I spot a rocky outcrop across the tracks, next to the underpass. I climb up. The underpass consists of a viaduct with three arches, the central opening for the freight tracks, the other two just being dark and resembling tunnels. One of these tunnels is next to the outcrop. Perhaps my senses are already compromised, as it looks like there is another person sleeping in the neighboring tunnel.

T0:30-I listen to music and draw pictures. It is the familiar feeling of 4-AcO-MET, where everything I draw feels beautiful and profound. I love art or creations where everything seems perfectly functional and well placed, and everything I draw feels like that, each line being deliberate and serving its own exact purpose. Of course this is total delusion, in retrospect the drawing is sloppy and scatterbrained. Visuals aren’t picking up too much, I definitely feel very light and spacey. Very little bodyload to speak of except for sweatiness and a slight restlessness and nausea. I smoke a little more. I realize this is the place I would come to die, it is beautiful, lonely and serene. When the day comes I would lie my neck down on the tracks and wait. This is the final place, this is my final place. I don’t feel sad or disturbed thinking about that, rather a bit giddy that I have found a place I can claim as my own special place, in life and in death. The setting sun strikes the haggard bushes with a light that I would love to have one day mourn me.

T0:50-It is getting pretty dark. I decide this probably isn’t the best place to be alone in the dark, and also I can’t see what I’m drawing anymore. I decide it’s time to get up. I begin walking back, the visuals and body feels are picking up ever so slightly, though I am somewhat coherent. It is lacking the jarring perception shifts and zoned visuals from when I did 4-AcO-MET alone, and the visuals now seem to be spiraling and checkered patterns arising from the foliage, sky, and ground. I walk by the sleeping dude again, this time we wakes up when I approach, I let him know I mean no harm. I go into a nearby park and meditate to what’s left of the sunlight. I don’t think I’m tripping that hard. But then I close my eyes. The state I entered was whimsical and goofy. The various sounds around me reverberate and repeat reaching a higher and higher pitch, as if the whole universe is exploding into a big cosmic giggle. It feels corny and ridiculous honestly. The visuals are 3-dimensional geometric shapes, with intricate polka-dot, checkerboard, or concentric patterns. They all feel like cosmic jesters, they are personified forms with bright personalities to match their bright colors. They are all floating in a patterned space and are strangely lit, as if they have a spotlight on them or have light shining from within them. They are self-transforming, morphing into one another and interacting and splitting and infinitely nesting within themselves. They seem to move in reaction to the various auditory alterations. I feel my body sequentially vibrate/buzz and go numb, starting at my extremities and working to my core, until I am nothing but this absurd geometric space. If I open my eyes I snap back to normal and regain feeling, but if I close my eyes the process starts again. Wow. I’m tripping really hard.

T1:10-I decide to continue my journey and manage to get up. I am definitely peaking now. I have to cross an extremely busy and fast road with no crosswalk and traffic in both directions. I end up waiting 15 minutes before there is an opening. The whole time I stand there I feel myself sinking into existence, the headlights of the cars casting rainbow checker patterns on everything. After I cross I begin to walk across the city.

T1:30-As I’m walking I begin to be struck with delusions of grandeur. I feel like I can do anything, that I am going to do anything. I feel warm and confident and super empathetic, similar to my last time doing 4-AcO-MET. It feels so nice, but also feels very fake and chemically induced, like some switch was flipped to induce this sense of purpose and competence that just isn’t normally there, and based on the rest of my existence, there is no purpose or competence in me at all. It’s fake but feels so good, this really really feels like getting high on a drug more than a profound trip. I sit down to take a break and sink back into the CEV world, it has gone unchanged. Now even with my eyes open the visuals are decently vivid, not so much in the form of alterations but rather existing heavily as patterns covering every surface. I feel so giddy and social, I want to hang out with people when I get home, I want to exhibit myself, show myself off, feel cool and validated. I hit up a bunch of friends and invite them over for later.

T2:20-I’ve walked across the city now and am almost at the subway station. Still definitely peaking. Waiting for the subway is wild as it always is when I’m peaking. I feel like I’ve managed to deconstruct that sense of confidence and the delusions of grandeur to allow myself to be more grounded and less disturbed by the sheer power of delusion this substance imbues me with. The visuals are wild and entertaining, though not impairing by any means.

T2:45-I arrive home, spacey and floaty. I am experiencing a degree of urinary retention, similar to the last time I did allylescaline. I smoke some more and am kicked back up into strong territory. I am absolutely fascinated by everything in my house and that I read online, everything is distracting and whimsical. I decide to listen to horrendous noise music really loudly. It sounds so perfect, like when I’m on dissociatives. This time actually, it sounds even better, my state distorts the noise into some unique psychedelic whirlwind of sounds, the edge of the abrasive noises taken off by cascades of resonanace and reverberation. I lie in bed with my eyes closed for a while listening to stuff.

T4:00-One of my friends comes over. I am still pretty spacey and feeling very stimulated and amped up while simultaneously just burnt the fuck out. We hang out and play videogames. More people come over and the night just turns into an impromptu party. I am not feeling the same way I was before with respect to being social, it no longer feels like an opportunity to brag about myself and be validated by other people’s warmth and love. Rather I just feel nice, high, euphoric, and it’s nice to be around friends.

T6:00-Back to baseline.

Conclusion: I heard somewhere that mixing 4-AcO-tryptamines with allylescaline had a unique synergy. Honestly the allylescaline component wasn’t too noticeable and it just felt like a lower dose than my last foray with 4-AcO-MET was (which it pretty literally was). All the allyelscaline added perhaps was some change in the visuals and auditory nature (the high pitched noises I have noticed from phenethylamines, while tryptamines tend to be deeper and voluminous), and some bodyload. Nothing too noteworthy, just a nice and very basic trip overall.
